Bottom Feeders at Sedo, Need to do a little more homework So as many of you know, I was very unhappy with Sedo and removed all my domain names. Well, this Friday I sucked it up and figured it was to my best of interest to have my domains listed with them. There are several that I want to submit to the Great Domains auction and

How Can A .xxx/.sex Extension Be OK Now? I have read hundreds of stories about ICANN voting to allow the creation of an unlimited amount of domain extensions in the mainstream media. Each and everyone of these article talks about an adult extension .xxx/.sex or some other version as a foregone conclusion in terms of popularity among users and applicants.
The question is ho...

Part 1 Post A Disappointment, Part 2 To Come I have decided to rethink how I am going to word my part 2 article I was going to publish today. There is a reason for this. The post I made, Industry Chaos, was the third most read article since I started blogging and only 2 people left a comment. This is SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "Part 1 Post A Disappointment, Part 2 To Come", ur...

ICANN - Kill Off & Recreate The Domain Name Industry Is ICANN the right entity to provide oversight of the Internet? Given the crazy proposals that have received board approval, I believe its time for a change before the Internet crosses that “point of no return” and ends up in a total mess.
ICANN said in a recent press release:
“The Board today accepted a recommen...

Local Online Marketing Small businesses continue to make the move online as they have discovered they get much more for their marketing dollars. It is amazing how much of their marketing dollars have moved online in such a short period of time. I hope that many geodomainers are receiving a small part of this increase. Effective development and SHARETHIS...

The Geo Tracker 28 June 2008
Since I started reporting the geo tracker in December 2007, never has there been such a large amount of ccTLDs in the top 20. This past week, 13 claimed positions. This is was a great week for ccTLD geo domain sales. Of course, many of these sales were because of the recent SHARETHIS.addEntry({ title: "The Geo Tracker 28 June 2008",...

Don't love the treatment here. It's just akward. Slapping vertical dubs, dots, and coms around a logo does not scream URL. Not sure why they were so insistent on branding the URL around the logo. Frankly, it's a pretty ugly logo. This URL is as square as the box it's printed on.

GoodGrapes.com
Having just spotted a double-doozy Bad URL (2 bad URLs in 1 ad), it was refreshing to see an ad with not 2 but 3 Good URLs. No dubs and leading caps help the words pop. Even the logo has it right. Not sure about capitalizing the C in Com but, hey, can't blame 'em for trying. These URLs are really grape (ok, who didn't see that on...

OK, you know you've got a Bad URL when you have to tell people "Don't forget the dash in the middle." As Bryson Meunier, the man behind this URL spot, put it, "Good cause, Bad URL." Seems like a pretty open and shut case to me.

www.jeffreybaumgartner Now here's one I've never seen before -- a domain-less URL. And, no, the .com was not on that open window. I waited around til they closed it just to be sure (let that be a lesson to all you aspiring URL-spotters, a true URL-aholic will stop at nothing for proper URL-verification.) This is truly a bum, er... Baum URL.

WWW.FLATIRONPROJECT.COM Here's bad logo URL meets bad window URL. Not much more to say than this URL just falls flat. Or maybe, I could say it could stand to pump a bit more iron. Or this URL doesn't project well.

comcasteastwest.com Here's one time I don't mind all lower case. The different colors help the words stand apart. And I think adding Comcast to the URL is a smart way to track direct response. This ad is for East West University. Adding Comcast on at the front leverages that brand equity (for better or worse) and makes the viewer think that the only wa...

WWW.SECURITYSHOPINC.COM I get it. All the Good URLs are taken. But I just hate when companies tack an INC or LLC onto the end of their URLs. Unless the company is widely recognized as INC or LLC, it's just confusing. And it really doesn't work in this case as the URL resembles SecurityShopping.com. This URL should be kept under lock and key.
