Where are they now? A look at domains sold in the past.
From time to time, if you follow the domainer message boards, you’ll see posts about domains that have been sold and what the new owner has done with them. This is mine post on the subject. For the purpose of this exercise, let’s look at only names that have sold over two years ago as the

Development Can Be Cost Prohibitive
As the title of this post implies, I think some types of web development projects can be cost prohibitive. Although there are plenty of lower cost solutions for building an informational website (like TropicalBirds.com), things begin to get expensive when a database driven directory is needed. Oftentimes, I find myself looking to sel...

It’s official, the new ICANN fee is working!
I have been gone for the 4th of July holiday, plus it’s the weekend but I really wanted to be working. I did a little work last night and looked into today’s PendingDelete domain list. Since I didn’t have that much time to look into the list, I just made a list of the easiest domains

Linton Investments Begins Development of Kayaking(dot)org
We have begun work immediately on Kayaking(dot)org. This is a great example of a typical flip for us - a strong, valuable keyword domain that we can build a compelling, interactive website with multiple forms of monetization. Today we created the initial look-and-feel for the site. This began with a bit of time on iStockPhoto pic...

Buying and Selling Domains Safely with Pay Pal
I am frequently asked by readers for my stance on paying for domains with Pay Pal, or accepting payment for domains through Pay Pal. I think it is always best to learn from experience and as a domain investment firm we have a lot of experience buying and selling domain names. Pay Pal is a service that holds next to *no liability* fo...

ICANN Not Enforcing Rules Against Registrar Warehousing Because There Are No Rules
One of the leading domain attorneys we all know and love sent me an e-mail today about my Post the other day concerning Domain Registrars which warehouse expired domains of their customers instead of releasing them into a drop or auction. It seems that Paragraph 3.7.9 of the agreement between ICANN and the Regsitrars that we

Snapnames Down - No Answer!
One of the 3 major backordering companies is currently down. I put a call into the SnapNames support phone number, nobody answered and it went to voicemail - so I left a message. Not only is this very unprofessional, but it gives their competitors such as NameJet and Pool a  clear advantage. There has been some discussion

How To Use Freshdrop.net To Find Domain Names Part 2: Geodomains
This is part 2 of my Freshdrop.net posts; you can view part 1 here. Today I want to focus on geodomains. Sure, this is trend domaining blog, but if you read my first post you’d remember that I’d also like to tackle geodomains. You can’t deny the rising popularity of geodomains. The

Dynadot: Grace Deletions Are Back
Yep… back… but with a catch: You are receiving this email because you have grace deleted a domain, or you are a bulk customer. On July 5 we removed grace deletions from our system because ICANN is no longer refunding their $0.20 fee for domains deleted in the first 5 days. Many customers contacted us and were

DomainTheft.org Updated with New Theft Reports
DomainTheft.org added eight new domains to their domain theft list today. The website has been operating for about a month now and has already amassed a good list of stolen domains. Anyone buying a domain from a forum or even a listing service like Sedo or Afternic should check DomainTheft.org first to make sure they are not buying a...

SnapNames.com still down, full day # 2!
SnapNames.com has been down since July 4, 2008 with today being the 6th. Their is a short note on their site saying auctions for the 4th & 5th will be ending on the 8th. Does this mean they plan on being down until the 8th? That is my guess and I have not heard what the

I sent my newsletter subscribers a list of 109 expired domains today. I practice showing only a sample of that list on my blog here to be fair to the folks that bothered to subscribe to my FREE newsletter. My newsletter is free and you can subscribe at any time though. If you want to learn

garden-flags.com
Peter Askew, the man of oh so many URLs, sent this one in. Looks like something my 4 year-old cousin drew. I like the colors to help the words stand out but the dash gets completely lost in this treatment. This URL should've been flagged before it ever went live.

www.otbeach.com
This beached URL comes courtesy of Ritesh Hassamal. As I've mentioned before, I hate URLs that randomly acronymize certain words. My wife is an Occupational Therapist and to me, that's what OT stands for. When I saw this URL I pictured my wife and all her co-workers lounging around at a beach and that's not exactly a pleasant though...

BAN BOREDOM.COM
Ritesh is 2 for 2 with Bad URLs today. As he points out, this one looks like a call-to-arms against the website Boredom.com. I'm all for subtle spacing in between words but not when it gives the string an entirely new meaning. OK, you all know where I'm going with this so say it with me, "This URL should be banned."
