Pair of 6-Figure Sales and a Passel of .AI Domains Take Spotlight on Our Latest Top 20 Chart

The second month of the 2024 domain sales season is underway with a pair of six-figure sales heading our latest bi-weekly all extension Top 20 Sales Chart. Nothing out of the ordinary about that except for the fact that a .net domain led the charge. That was a solid $108,897 sale of Profile.net via DAN.com. The seller's representative, Deepak Rajani, orchestrated the highest publicly reported .net sale since last August when IO.net sold for $118,000. Profile.net was being used as a directory site but Deepak said that will go away as soon as the buyer changes the nameservers. The new owners didn't share any details on their plans for the domain with him.

Sedo also rang the .com bell at about the same price, banking €100,000 ($107,000) for PhotoBooth.com. It may be awhile before we see what that will become as well. It currently goes to a Dutch registrar's parking page. Sedo went on to pile up a dozen chart entries overall including a $45,000 deal for #6 Soaring.com that was closed by Sedo premium broker Mark Ghoriafi.

Then there are all of those impressive .AI sales. With the artificial intelligence boom currently underway, five .AI domains landed on the Big Board with four reaching the top ten. The $59,995 sale of #3 Boombox.ai by James Booth (DomainBooth.com) led the pack with a $59,500 sale of FEM.ai, reported by Namecheap, right behind.

Those .AI sales gave the ccTLD category a big boost, allowing them to claim eight chart entries overall. While the TLD is being marketed to mean "artificial intelligence" it is actually the country code TLD for Anguilla, a Caribbean island that is a British overseas territory with a population of just 15,000. Sedo accounted for all three of the ccTLD sales that were not .AI, with #12 Alexander.ch leading that trio at $24,075

While the non .com gTLDs were limited to three spots they claimed the big one - #1 with Profile.net - and also scored with Afternic's $50,000 sale of #4 (tie) Elixir.xyz and Sedo's $20,000 sale of #14 (tie) Fun.chat

One other note before we go to the bi-weekly charts. With this report we have just put up our first 2024 YTD Top Sales Charts. Those start with 20 entries each and will grow with each new report until they are finally capped at 100 entries each for the remainder of the year. The final 2023 Top 100 Chart can now be found in our Domain Sales Archive (along with all of the other annual Top 100 charts from the past 20 years).

Now, here is how all of the leaders stacked up for the two weeks ending Sunday, Feb. 4, 2024:

Country Codes

Most of the ccTLD story from the past couple of weeks was told in the all extension section above with country domains piling up eight chart entries on the premier chart - just one less than the always powerful .coms. Since you saw all of those on the Big Board, the highest ccTLD sale you haven't seen yet is the #9 domain on our latest Country Code Top 20 Sales Chart. That is Sedo's $9,500 sale of Talentus.ch

Sedo rounded out the top ten with ClearBank.de at $8,453 and went on to pile up 13 of the 20 chart entries overall. Aside from DomainBooth and Namecheap, the only other venue to sidestep the Sedo steamroller was DomainLore.uk where #18 Mood.uk went for $6,048 and #20 RAB.co.uk sold for $5,670.

Non .com gTLDs

The Non .com gTLDs were led by that 800-pound .net gorilla - Profile.net at $108,897 that led off this report. That headed a power trio at the top of our latest bi-weekly Non .Com TLD Top 20 Sales Chart that also included Elixir.xyz at $50,000 and Fun.chat at $20,000. Sedo rounded out the first five with Thailand.org at $11,000 and Yellow.network at $7,500.

The .nets won the TLD race with seven chart entries - two better than the five put up by .org. With nine different extensions represented on the leader board, the only other TLD with multiple entries was .art with a pair that tied for #15 at $3,250 each - Forma.art at Namecheap and Trash.art via Godaddy.
