Spring is Here and High End Domain Sales are Blossoming Again Led By Six Figure Sales

In recent months most of the activity in the domain aftermarket has been happening the low to middle prices ranges but some higher sales are moving into the spotlight now. Over the past two weeks we saw a $500,000 one-word .com sale, a $300,000 3-letter .com and the 2nd highest non .com gTLD sale reported year to date. By taking three of the top five spots on our latest bi-weekly all extension Top 20 Sales Chart, the .coms sent a reminder that despite the current .ai boom, they are still King of the Hill. Having said that, .ai continued to rock the house by putting six more names on the new honor roll.

The big story this time around the track, that we wrote about in our Lowdown section earlier this week, was the $500,000 sale of Bagels.com in a deal orchestrated by Sedo Premium Domain Broker Mark Ghoriafi. That not only tops the new chart, it replaces Peace.com as the biggest publicly reported domain sale of the year to date (previous leader Peace.com was sold for $400,000 with that deal also being posted by Sedo).

This week's runner up was an impressive $300,000 sale of FSL.com that K-Ventures made to a new Web 3 products company in a deal closed through DAN.com. The big non .com gTLD sale we referred to was Swetha.xyz's $90,000 sale of Eclipse.xyz through at Efty.com lander that put that domain in the 3rd spot. That one comes at an appropriate time with millions of people buzzing about the rare solar eclipse that will be crossing a wide swath of the United States on April 8. This group got a second chart entry from Synergy.media's $20,000 sale of #20 (tie) Smart.domains.

Namecheap reported the half-dozen .ai sales noted above with four of those landing on the top half of the elite list, led by #4 Operator.ai led at $75,000  and #6 Reflection.ai. All of those .ai heavyweights made it another big week for the ccTLDs who finished with seven chart entries overall. UnicDomains.com threw an extra punch for the country code team with their CAD 41,389 ($30,628) acquisition of Helicopters.ca in a CatchDrop.com auction.

The .coms still managed to take the most rungs on the chart ladder, 11 of 21 places overall. Michael Mann's DomainMarket.com put up one of those with #5 Betao.com at $59,888. Sedo Senior Broker Dave Evanson had a hand it too after closing a $46,666 sale of #7 Scaffolding.com and SnapNames rang the bell with #18 Arnica.com at $21,369

Here is how all of the leaders stacked up for the two weeks ending Sunday, March 17, 2024:
