Some Uni-Registered New gTLDs Will be Transferred to 1API

I received an email from Uni (formerly Uniregistry) that I initially thought was a Whois verification email and almost ignored. It was, in fact, a somewhat important email informing me that one of my domain names is going to be transferred to 1API if I don’t take action sooner.

Here’s an excerpt from the email I received:

Important Notice Regarding Your Domain Registration(s)

Dear customer,

Based on our records, you have domain(s)* registered at Uniregistry.com that will be transferred to 1API GmbH as the registrar of record. You will remain the registrant for these domains and domain management will remain at Uniregistry.

*The impacted TLDs are:

.HIPHOP
.CLICK
.HIV
.PROPERTY
.SEXY
.LINK
.BLACKFRIDAY
.PHOTO
.TATTOO
.GIFT
.HELP
.JUEGOS
.AUDIO
.CHRISTMAS
.DIET
.FLOWERS
.GAME
.GUITARS
.HOSTING
.LOL

This domain transfer will take place prior to March 12, 2023.

If you do not wish to have your domain(s) transferred to 1API GmbH, you have until March 8, 2023 to transfer your domain(s) to a new registrar.

This change to your domain registration will have no impact on your web hosting or other services linked to your domain(s).

If you have any questions, please contact help@uniregistry.com

I own Elliot.Link, which I registered in 2015 and have used for forwarding to my LinkedIn page. I tried to transfer it to GoDaddy, but the transfer page showed an error message:

I also tried to transfer it to NameBright, but that transfer failed, too.

Elliot.link is not an important domain name to me, so I am going to let it transfer to 1API. Others who own domain names that are impacted and do not wish to use 1API may want to investigate an outbound transfer prior to the March 12th transfer date.

  1. Elliot for those that don’t know, 1api is CentralNic’s registrar back end – Moniker, HexoNet, Keysystems, and others, etc. We have been waiting since November for GoDaddy to onboard .HipHop so its getting done but not directly. GoDaddy is working through 1API as a reseller to make these available on GoDaddy instead of onboarding them directly. Perhaps someone at GoDaddy or Paul Nicks can explain why? We look forward to having .HipHop live on GoDaddy finally after waiting all this time. Leading up to the 50th Anniversary year of Hip Hop on August 11, 2023 through all of 2024, there will be a lot of built up demand and awareness generated, so having GoDaddy onboard before this is a good thing!

  2. Elliot.link may not be important to you, but it’s pretty damn important to me. How so? This isn’t the place to discuss it, but you’re having registered it back in 2015 and using it to forward to your Linkedin bio is a Big Deal imo. Thanks for sharing.
